Casinos Reframe Interiors as Hospitality-Driven Hubs

21 September 2026

The casino industry is redefining its interior design ethos, shifting away from rowdy gaming floors towards calm, hospitable spaces that cater to multiple guest journeys.

Insights from the American Gaming Association and the American Society of Interior Designers reveal a growing preference among casino visitors for environments that prioritize comfort, wellbeing, and a sense of occasion. This trend is driving operators to curate interiors that support a variety of activities, from gaming to dining to relaxing.

"Today's casino audience is diverse," says Maryam Souzani, Associate Principal at HBG Design. "We're designing for core gaming patrons, younger experience-driven visitors, and non-gaming guests who come for the dining, entertainment, and social atmosphere. The successful casino of the future will be a hub that seamlessly integrates all these experiences."

This mindset is evident in two recent projects by HBG Design.

At Atlantis Paradise Island, the firm spearheaded a bold 85-table, 700-machine casino overhaul, infusing the space with renewed vibrancy through Dale Chihuly glass sculptures, restored murals, new lighting, and more open ceilings. The redesign also added or reworked hospitality-led venues like Moon Bar and Bar Sol, creating a continuous experience that keeps guests engaged whether they're gaming, dining, or relaxing.

Meanwhile, at Michigan's Gun Lake Casino Resort, HBG created the Wawyé Oasis - a year-round tropical atrium with a six-story glass enclosure and flexible zoning that supports both leisure and dynamic entertainment. The Oasis anchors the resort's new 15-story hotel tower, which blends nature-inspired materiality, intuitive technology, and refined craftsmanship to create a luxurious, nature-based retreat.

These properties exemplify a broader industry shift. "The casino of the future is designed as a collection of multiple experiences under one roof," says Souzani. "From gaming to dining to wellness to social connection, operators are investing in interiors that make guests feel pampered, inspired and connected, all tailored to their preferences and guiding them on a precise yet personal journey."
